e.l.f. Essential Long-Wear Lipliner Pencils – Review & Swatches
e.l.f Cosmetics is one of the most affordable beauty brands on the market, offering a huge variety of products ranging from makeup to nails to skincare. I recently purchased a ton of e.l.f. makeup to see if it was any good, and being such an avid lipliner fanatic, I couldn’t leave them out of my shopping bag!
I tried searching online for swatches of some of the lipliners since the website stock photos are never that accurate, and there were barely any reviews or swatches! I did end up finding one or two bloggers who swatched a few of the shades, so thankfully I was able to decide on which ones to purchase. Anyway, long story short – I decided to do my own review and swatches of these lipliners so hopefully it will help you pick the shades you like as well!
The e.l.f. Essential Lipliners are much smaller than the average lipliner. They’re about half the size of a standard NYX or Rimmel London lip liner, and they need to be sharpened quite frequently. I’m not sure why, but trust me, you don’t want to use them if they aren’t because the pencil becomes quite rough! Besides that, the pigment is pretty decent and stayed on my lips for longer than I was expecting. It’s advertised as being long-wearing although I wouldn’t say it lasts longer than a normal pencil lip-liner.
The three colors I swatched below are: “Mauve Luxe”, “Natural Blush” and “Bark.” My favorite of the bunch was definitely the “Natural Blush” because it was a tad darker than my natural lip color so I was able to slightly over-line them and still have a natural looking pout!

Price: $1.00

Overall, I thought these lipliners were just OK. I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with them because of how cheap they are but I think for $1.00 they’re a great buy. Because of their small size and how frequently they need to be sharpened, they don’t have a long lifespan but at that price I really don’t find that to be too big of an issue.
