Every September, New York Fashion Week takes the fashion capital by storm with designers, models, celebrities and influencers taking part in numerous daily runway shows that set the trends for the following season. Although the runways showcase the newest designer clothes, the beauty looks that are created backstage before the action begins are just as influential.
This year, I was lucky enough to be invited to two fashion shows that included Angela Simmons’ line for the Harlem Globetrotters and Michael Kuluva’s “Tumbler and Tipsy” collection. Haircare brand, Not Your Mother’s styled the hair of all the models at these STYLE360 shows – and my backstage pass gave me an inside look at what NYM products the stylists used to create the beauty looks that perfectly complimented the clothes.
Angela Simmons Presents: Foofi and Harlem Globetrotters 90th Anniversary Collection
For the Angela Simmons’ Harlem Globetrotters line, Not Your Mother’s styled the hair in a simple yet chic bun. The stylists did a lot of teasing to the roots, and used their “Girl Powder” to add even more volume.
To clean up the teased strands, the NYM stylists used the “Rise & Shine” Silky Smooth Shine Mist to smooth out flyaways and clean up the overall look.
Finally, the look was finished off with a few sprays of the NYM “She’s a Tease” Volumizing Hairspray and a red, white, and blue headband.
I was lucky enough to get my hair done exactly like the models so I could see first hand what went into the hairstyle. See photo below for my NYM look!
Tumbler and Tipsy by Michael Kuluva
The second show I covered was a bit more hectic backstage, but I did get to see what steps went into Real Housewife of New York City, Jill Zarin’s hairstyle. It was very similar to the bun created for the Angela Simmons show but with more of a sleek finish and the tail of the hair bun left out.
The photo above was pulled from Getty Images to show you how the hairstyle came together for her big runway debut! The “Rise & Shine” Shine Mist was used on Jill and from the photo you can really see how awesome this stuff works!
