It’s that time of year again! A new Essie collection is released and the most recent one to debut is for Fall 2013. Essie released a brand new set of 6 colors ranging from opaque to shimmer to duo-chrome!
I think the colors in this collection are very Fall-like colors-especially the blue-black and the red. However, I’m really not a fan of the shimmer colors, especially the duo-chrome “For the Twill Of It” color that the collection was named after. I would have to say my favorite of the bunch is “After School Boy Blazer” because I don’t believe Essie has an existing color like that, and also, it’s a great color to wear in the fall months. Here is a little more information about each color:
“After School Boy Blazer” is a very dark blue/black creme. It is very close to the color black, especially when a second coat is applied. If you want to rock a dark shade on your nails but don’t want to go all the way black, this is a great alternative!
“Twin Sweater Set” is a deep red creme. As I’ve noted before, Essie often throws in a red to most of their collections and because of how many they already have in their archives, there are oftentimes many dupes. The second I saw “Twin Sweater Set” I thought it looked just like a color I already own, “Forever Yummy.” Both are true reds with a slightly darker undertone. If you already own “Forever Yummy” I wouldn’t recommend buying this color because of how similar the two shades are.
“Vested Interest” is a dusty grey-green creme. This color does not work with certain skin tones so keep that in mind when going for this shade. I personally am not a fan of this color, but that’s just my personal preference!
“The Lace Is On” is a fuschia toned violet/purple shimmer. I normally don’t purchase many shimmer polishes because I just like the look of an opaque polish better, but it is quite pretty!
“For The Twill Of It” is a grey duochrome with streaks of purple and teal blue. Because the collection is named after this color, it has gotten the most attention, however, it’s not one of my favorites. Not only do I not like shimmer polishes that much but I also don’t like the idea of a duo-chrome color. The Polish Insomniac blogger did a dupe post about this color and OPI’s “Peace & Love & OPI” that you can check out here.
“Cashmere Bathrobe” is a dark cool-toned grey with a hint of silver shimmer. I think darker grey polishes are really perfect for fall so Essie was smart to add this color to the collection.
Overall, I think this collection is a good representation of trendy colors to rock in the fall. However, I wish they didn’t include so many shimmer colors in the bunch after making their 2013 summer collection all shimmer finishes. What did you think about Essie’s 2013 summer collection? Were you disappointed or are you a fan of the metallic/shimmer shades?
